my grandmother told me a story when i was very young.

“dear God, please do lead my life in a better path. I don’t have anyone in this world and You’re the only one who hears my cry and pain. But my heart yearns for someone that I can call a wife… a wife that can be with me through thick and hardships in my life… a taste of sweet pure love.”

Adam is a beautiful and well mannered young man. Well known for his kindness and hard work. He has no one in this world except himself. but he doesn’t care about it much even though his heart yearns for a partner. Love of his life. But no woman wants to live in poverty. And take Adam as a husband for he has nothing. No matter. He vowed to himself that he’ll open the peoples eyes. He will make it.

He went to the Eden City, where he found a job as a seller in a grocery shop. all his hard work paid off by getting promoted to be the bosses right hand man. still, his heart screams in loneliness with no one to share his joy. No matter. he will wait for that day to come. every single day, he’ll never stop praying to have the love that he’s been searching for. Untill…

“Oh dear!”

He didn’t realized that he bumped to a lady when he was crossing the road with full of things in his mind. He regretted for his clumsiness and asked for forgiveness.

“I’m really sorry, mi..”

As he look up, he can’t believe what he’s seeing.

Such a beautiful woman… it’s like his prayer has just been answered by God.

The beautiful young woman just smiled at him and picked up her things that was knocked by Adam. Adam helped her but his eyes can’t take off from the young womans face. His heart skips a beat while he can’t feel his lungs pumping. at all. he was taken away by the young woman’s beauty.

“It’s alright, sir.”

“Please. Call me Adam.”

The young woman smiled and he can see the woman’s cheeks rosed with blushes. It turned red when Adam introduced himself. The woman couldn’t say no to the introduction. She smiled at Adam and with her soft voice, she said; “I’m Eve.”

After the incident, they became friends. And as days go by, they became closer till the day the knew that their hearts engaged together. Their love is something that people would envy about. They’re such a beautiful couple event though they knew that Adam is poor, but Eve would never set her eyes on anyone else but Adam. They can’t do anything to separate them for the realized Eve was meant for Adam.

As time ticks and years go by, Adam decided to bring their relationship much further. he told Eve his intention and Eve was very happy with his decision.

“I will work hard and give you every wealth in this world. I will never let you feel poverty like I did before… I promise you.”

And Eve took the promise to her heart.

Adam worked hard to get what he wanted. From the bosses right hand man, he became his own boss and opened his own fruit stall. He got what he wanted and his wealth could never be counted. Everyday, Eve will wait for his hand in marriage and prays for his success, thanking God for giving Adam a chance to have a good life.

But as time goes by, Adam became greedy and every time Eve asks for the proposal and opinion bout the wedding plans, Adam will ask her to wait. Adam still give her promises and vows. Eve couldn’t say anything more or argue for he love to Adam is boundless. Eve still have faith for their love and Adam will change to be much better person than now. Thus, she could not deny that Adam already turned himself to Mr.Scrooge. He became greedy and arrogant. Where by he forget bout his promises and his beliefs to God.

Until one day, Adam went to his stall and saw a beggar came, asking for an apple. No one could ever guess what he did to the beggar. he shouted and drove the beggar away from the stall; “Your stink will make fruits rot!”

From far away, Eve saw the commotion with a tear rolling down to her cheeks. She knew that the man she loves and she saw at that time, is not Adam that she knew three years ago. Eve came to him and in front of hundred people on the Eden City streets, no one could ever expect such a bright light came at the middle of evening, nearly blind them. Adam closed his eyes with his arms and tried to take a peek. He can never believe what he’s seeing at that time. It’s Eve.

She’s floating with pair of big white wings behind her back. Adam loses his breath with Eve’s beauty and radiant but he doesn’t understand. What is happening?? why is Eve changing and have a pair of wings on her back??

With her soft but firm voice, Eve said to him;

“Once, you prayed to God to give you true love. To share your joy and tears. That’s where God gave you His most precious gift. His angel. I gave you my golden love and yet, you played it like it has no price…”

Adam’s heart shattered bit by bit. Then it broke apart when he saw silver tears rolling on Eve’s white skin cheeks.

“Now… all your promises is like unpaid debts. God took me away from you. And I’m willing to leave you and your promises.”

“Eve…”

Before Adam could say anything, Eve’s wings flapped with one big blow and vanished to thin air… leaving Adam with his regrets and tears. He already got the perfect love for his life. But he waste it all for wealth and gold. Arrogance and despair towards people who needed more to live. And now true enough, all his promises are like unpaid debts. Which his wealth and gold could never pay till the day he die.
